EZ Moves
Furniture Slides Can Help
Workers Perform Their Jobs Safer and Easier |
 |
After
the success of its EZ Moves Furniture Slides, Simtec Company
is giving a real "push" to its professional
product line designed to help workers in the janitorial
and hospitality fields reduce back injuries. Candy Holsing,
Director of Marketing for EZ Moves, who has a background
in occupational medicine, said it’s her personal
mission to eliminate back problems for workers related
to heavy lifting and moving. "When you have a repetitive
or heavy lifting task every day, such as moving furniture
to clean, it can take a toll physically," said Holsing.
"Often these workers cannot afford the high costs
of healthcare or to be out of work for long recovery periods."
The slides, in both EZ Moves Pro models and the 4 ft.
long ski-like slides, are designed to reduce friction
on carpeting and most hard surface floors.
"For the past 18 months, we have been working in
cooperation with The California Occupational Safety &
Health Administration’s Research & Education
Unit in development and research for a new workplace education
publication created specifically for janitors, custodians,
and housekeepers," said Holsing. "We are pleased
to report that Working Safer and Easier: for Janitors,
Custodians, and Housekeepers is now available in print
and online." She added that this publication can
be beneficial when training employees and is obtainable
at www.dir.ca.gov/dosh/puborder.asp.
Dr. Anna Mathew, MD, MPH of Pittsburgh is a board certified
occupational medicine specialist who says moving tools
like EZ Moves are important on the job and in the home
for reducing back strain. "Lower back disorders,
often caused by lifting and forceful movements, are the
second most common cause of employee absenteeism,"
she said. Dr. Matthew added that products like EZ Moves
can reduce back injuries, but if you suffer from back
problems already, consult your physician before using
the product or doing any sort of moving.
The various sized EZ Moves slides can help reduce the
risk of back injuries by eliminating the need to lift
and carry heavy items. The sturdy pads slide under furniture
legs or corners then glide on the friction-free plastic
bottom. According to Holsing, worker productivity is increased,
because often large, heavy items like furniture and file
cabinets can be glided along by one person. There’s
also no need to empty drawers and shelves before moving.
"It has been my goal since EZ Moves were invented
more than 10 years ago to have our products recognized
as personal protective equipment (PPE)", said Holsing,
adding her own coined phrase Personal Protective Ergonomic
Equipment (PPEE) to describe EZ Moves. "First we
had the wrist rests and lumbar support chairs--now EZ
Moves lets you move furniture ergonomically and safely."
EZ Moves has a complete Professional Furniture Moving
Kit with four different sets of EZ Moves to tackle any
size moving job. Consumers can look for EZ Moves II and
EZ Moves Permanent Slides, as well as special protective
Hard Surface slides for hardwood and other hard surfaces.
